Invisible Counter/Color of Portal Page/Board Links

Do you have a few tips you would like to share with us? This is the place for it.

Invisible Counter/Color of Portal Page/Board Links

Postby arj1981 on 02 Nov 2008, 08:44

Three new questions. I asked some of these questions in other threads but they have not been answered yet, so to keep the confusion down, I just started a new thread for my new questions. I think I almost got everything squared away. So I will not be a nuance for that much longer. Please be patient with me.

I have a link for an invisible counter http://www.statcounter.com/ for my google blogspot page but it's not working on my new forum. Is there something I'm doing wrong or am I using the wrong software?

Is there a way to change JUST the color of the portal page?

The board links on my forum "view unanswered posts" "view new posts" "view active topics" All say no matches found but I have threads and posts on my forum. How do I change that so it's accurate?

Thanks.

Hi arj1981

where are you trying to put the stats counter, i have one that works fine, although it not invisible, and its on my portal only. i put the code in a widget and away it went :)

regards your post problem, take a look at this in your user control panel (not ACP)

Board preferences >
Edit display options >
Display topics from previous days: Set this to show "ALL TOPICS"

i know if this is set to anything else then it only shows post for whatever days its set on ( set for 1 day will only show post for yesterday and not before)

Im not saying this is what your problem is, but it might be, so worth a look to eliminate it :)

regards

Tyke :)

This is how to put stats counter on your forums portal

first go and get your stat counter code (this is the code you get when you configure the stats counter)

looks something like this

<!-- Start of StatCounter Code -->
<script type="text/javascript">
sc_project=36882325;
sc_invisible=0;
sc_partition=44;
sc_security="58778670da";
</script>

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.statcounter.com/counter/counter.js"></script><noscript><div class="statcounter"><a title="site stats" href="http://www.statcounter.com/free_web_stats.html" target="_blank"><img class="statcounter" src="http://c45.statcounter.com/3353455/0/3453e50da/0/" alt="site stats" ></a></div></noscript>
<!-- End of StatCounter Code -->.

Now go to your Forums ACP

General> scroll to bottom and click on
portal module

here you will see

Portal modules settings

If you havent got any custom modules then you wont see any on the list. all you do is click on the button that says add (its on the right hand side of the screen

Click this and you will see

Module name
module title
Block type (this just means the fancy box that will show up on the portal. (you can choose no bloc if you wish,,, for no frame)

content is where you put that stats code

Just name your module
title your module anything you like
choose your frame type (bloc)
paste your stats code in the content box

Save

now go to General >portal structure

this is where you will see the structure of your portal in grafix block form.

Just look at the bottom of that page to see Custom modules, look for the one you just made. Drag it to the desired position on your portal structure above

Submit. :)

jobs a good un, you should now see your stats counter on the portal page :D

Thanks. I got it to work. I wanted mine to track the activity of my whole website but it only tracks the page that the counter is actually on. Is there a way around this?

no i dont think there is as the portal is the only place you are allowed to put in code like Html and such like :)

the links view as only new for the person logged in.. so If youve seen them they wont come up. I dont know about active topics though as to why they arent showing...

view unanswered posts also only shows those that havent been answered by ANYONE...

not sure about the portal, you can change colours for different forums (like they have here) so I imagine you can... not sure how tho.
